FOTC Blogger Event! :D

Hello hello!

So I have to recap the wonderful happenings that took place in the HBO office last Thursday. Over the course of the 5 posts here, I’ve made some amazing new friends and I finally got to meet them in person at our Flight of the Conchords blogger event - which went AMAZING :) But paiseh for the late post; I am not as consummate a blogger as you guys!

First I have to give a big fat thank-you to the folks who turned up, and their +1s. Jerrick, Claudia, Nadia, Krisandro, Gilbert, Yu Hui, Marina, Sheylara, Wilfrid, Nicholas and Hillary - I hope you guys had a great time!! Ack that was a mouthful.  

The night started off in a panic for me as I was readying the trailer contest page for presentation all the way til 6+pm, and our first guest turned up way ahead of time to add to the pressure..gah! But that was good too, as most of the folks arrived on time at 7pm and we managed to kick off our office tour more or less on schedule. Everyone was split into 2 groups led by 2 of our senior Tech & Ops staff - Smanda, our Senior Director (big-shot!) and Vincent, our Senior VP (even bigger shot!). I was with Smanda’s group and we went on the 4 stops in this order: studio, audio room, edit suite and master control room a.k.a. the Fishtank. Our very game colleagues Boris and Nick even set up equipment for people to try so kudos to the willing sacrifices Jerrick, Hillary and Krisandro! I’ll find out if your test reads/audio samples were saved into our library ;)

While we were roaming around the office, our hidden gem of a caterer was busy setting up the food for everyone in Deadwood, our recre room of sorts. Seriously, this isn’t product endorsement but Absolutely New Zealand, our source of authentic NZ fare, was absolutely wonderful that night. The items came non-stop and everything was yum! Well, the little bits I got to eat, that is. I hope all of you guys had your fill of the yummy food cos I didn’t; thought I’d come in to the office and eat more on Friday but it was ALL GONE. *horrors* Some pics for me to reminisce and mourn its loss :(

YUMMY RIGHT. Anyway after the food, came the main highlight of the night: two whole episodes of FOTC! I know I’ve stated it countless times here but despite my job, I honestly love the show and I still laughed as loud as the audience that day, on my (I think) 4th time rewatching! Heh but really, seeing the warm response made the whole event all worthwhile. The audience got the jokes, didn’t laugh at the wrong bits and best of all, everyone got the hotdog reference!! It’s like raising a little kid to see it start walking…or something :)

Heh all in all I really enjoyed myself, and it’s the true cliche about how I finally got to meet in real life the folks whose blogs/Plurk pages I’ve been secretly stalking - like Krisandro, Nadnut, Marina, etc. Yep yep I am guilty as charged. And the “hotdogs” that I said we prepared in the last post…

…were these! Pssst I took a hotdog for myself too! haha :)

We capped off the night with my grand announcement of our I ♥ Flight of the Conchords Trailer Contest, which I have to plug here once again hehe. Detailed information can be found here, but do take a quick glance at our very arty EDM for basic facts!

Hello hello! Wooo I’m reaaally on a roll here. 3 consecutive days of posting!!

So anyway, we’re a week away from our super Top Secret Mission and I figured it’s time for a warm-up after the 101 yesterday. I give to you: FOTC 201 :) Heh sophomore level already! Nothing difficult about it, just imagine yourself in the shoes of the Conchords - what would you do?

Ep 1: Jemaine attends Dave’s party and scores a date with a hot chick, only to realise she’s Bret’s ex. Would you go out with your best friend’s ex?

AH. This is hard to answer! Haha ok as much as I usually stick to the rule of friends over boys…erm yah I would date my BFF’s ex if we happened to hit it off - BUT only if the breakup was clean and amicable! There’s pretty much zero possibility of me dating any friend’s ex whom we all cursed and swore at, even if he looks like Christian Bale.

Ep 2: Faced with the prospect of a dwindling cashflow, Bret is forced to hold signs (“Hot Dogs”) at a busy NYC street corner. What was your worst temp job experience?

I think Bret’s temp job is kind of enjoyable what! Albeit unbelievably boring :) Heh anyway I’ve enjoyed all my past temp jobs actually…but if I had to pick, I’d say this particular survey one I did with a consulting firm. Great temp job - got to meet big bosses everywhere - but horrible supervisor. Everyday we’d bring our survey sheets back and he’d flip thru the stack derisively, then comment something like ‘Wah, why so few only ha?’ What a dodo.

Ep 3: Bret loses Jemaine’s trust after Bret abandons him when they get mugged. Would you leave your best friend in the lurch when confronted by parang-wielding Ah Bengs?

Shoot. I am quite a big chicken!! Erm I think if the scene played out exactly like in the show [which you need to watch to find out what happened lor..haha ;)] I would run away but call the cops immediately so my friend isn’t harmed! Does that make me less of a bad person?

Hello…?

Hello there!

If it isn’t painfully obvious, this is the first time that I - and HBO Asia - are doing this and we’re very excited to be tapping into social media to promote our shows!! :)

Let me introduce myself before I go on. My name is Yin Qi and I work in the Communications department here in HBO Asia. As the name suggests, we communicate all sorts of information, using all forms of media, to all kinds of people. So this time, we’re telling everyone (including you, yes you..), using a blog, about our upcoming HBO Original Series Flight of the Conchords!

If you are reading this, you’ve probably also seen our very pretty microsite with show and cast info, and also music videos of the Conchords’ silly tunes. BTW we’re also on Facebook! You can graffiti your love for the guys all over our wall over there too. In a nutshell, all these online ventures form up the role I play in this FOTC campaign :)

So what is FOTC all about? The official answer’s here, but I personally think FOTC can’t be summed up that easily. Sure it’s about Bret and Jemaine and their lives in NYC, but FOTC is so great simply cos they don’t appear to be trying at all! They sing about the most ridiculous things (”love is like a roll of tape, it’s real good for making two things one“) but somehow it just works. At first watch, us girls in the office were all ‘oh Bret is so cute!!’. But as the season progressed, Jemaine’s ogre-librarian look started to rub off and now we are all certified ‘Jemainiacs’! (”Yis.”)

Haha ok um, I could go on to include all the wink wink, nudge nudge inside jokes but what fun is that when most people won’t get it? That’s why we’re going to all this extent to promote this show; the day we hear some guy tell his girlfriend on the streets “you’re so beautiful, you could be a waitress“, we’ll know that all this effort was worth it ;)
