Archive for Jemaine

Good things are worth waiting for :)

Hello Conchord fans!

First, my apologies for having disappeared from here. Work has been swampy and it takes too many brain cells to come up with a good post for you guys! Anyway, I just had to log on at the last minute today to share some exciting info about Bret and Jemaine…exciting, but geeky. haha.

Did you know both Bret and Jemaine are bona-fide movie actors?? Ok they are nowhere near the Brad Pitts and Matt Damons but they have been in Hollywood pictures. Just check this out:

Bret. Is. An. Elf!

Haha kudos to Mintea for alerting me to Bret’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in LOTR! I’m not an LOTR fan (okay don’t boo me!) so I never knew about his guest turn, nor the term Figwit which was created to refer to his un-named elf and stands for ‘Frodo is great…who is THAT?’ haha. It just tickles me to know that LOTR was really a “grassroots” project for NZ - almost anyone can get a part in it!

Ok ok these are even better. Jemaine - I know I’m biased! - has actually been in a couple of movies prior to acting in Flight of the Conchords and unfortunately for him, his cheesy past is easily available on YouTube! Look at the hip-swivelling going on here:

cheesy or what! :)

There’s more. Jemaine is involved in this upcoming movie called Gentlemen Broncos with Sam Rockwell (“Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”) that’s written by Jared Hess (“Napoleon Dynamite”). Pardon the name-dropping..I’m quite a film geek too :D Anyway he plays this character called Ronald Chevalier and there’s this viral clip of Chevalier floating around cyberspace. I almost couldn’t recognize him but had a great big laugh when it dawned on me!

Isn’t it amazing how actors morph themselves into various roles? I find it damn cool, and it’s added points to both Conchords ‘cos they write songs too! Nothing more attractive than that! I hope this useless info has been of great amusement to you guys because I had great fun digging out the videos hehe.

Now I need to head off to dinner but first - to the Singaporean bloggers, I’ll be seeing you guys tomorrow!! You know who you are; the ones tagged in FOTC 201 and our newly added RSVPs Sheylara, Wilfrid, Willy and Nicholas. I’m very excited to meet everyone tomorrow and I hope this post makes its way to you in time :) We’ve got yummy NZ food and *ahem* hotdogs lined up for you guys. Btw, do come looking glam and armed with cameras; our “slaves” have been toiling to present a fun and uniquely HBO (haha) experience for everyone. Whee!

Social Media Breakfast 3

Hello Conchord-ians!

Seeing as I’m a relative noob to this blogging thing, I took some time out last Saturday morning to attend my first Social Media Breakfast. As far as I knew, it’s a periodic get-together organized by some active folks in the local blogosphere, so I thought it’d be cool for me to meet the in-crowd and try to learn some things. It was pretty nervewracking at the start, cos it was obvious that most people there knew each other and we were breaking into their little bubble! But as the day went on, having my 2 friends around made things easier and soon we were mingling like pros. Big thanks to ssumin who told me about the event!

It is here that I have to say hi to Yuhui, Nicole, Mintea, Jerrick, Claudia and Daryl - the bloggers I met last Saturday! Very cool :) [Claudia captioned the above photo as "Beautiful people", haha. Yay.] Some of these folks, I will be meeting again next week to tell them more about FOTC so I’m looking forward to that! Got a super effusive response from Mintea when talking about the Conchords - very encouraging can! :D

I was so worried that everyone would go ‘huh??’..cos the Conchords are more of a cult fave in the US rather than a huge, mass hit like Sex and The City. I really wanted to talk further - especially to those who just heard about the show from us - but was a bit afraid everyone would think I was bringing up work so I didn’t dare to say more. Nevermind I can give a shout-out to them here: must do homework before we meet next week ya! :) Some music vids available here.

Oh oh by the way! I just have to share this…right after I posted the last time about us girls in the office being Jemainiacs, this piece of (sad) news came in yesterday: Jemaine Clement is MARRIED :( One down, one more to go. Sigh!

P.S. We want more friends on our blogroll! Drop us a comment if you wanna be linked :)

Hello…?

Hello there!

If it isn’t painfully obvious, this is the first time that I - and HBO Asia - are doing this and we’re very excited to be tapping into social media to promote our shows!! :)

Let me introduce myself before I go on. My name is Yin Qi and I work in the Communications department here in HBO Asia. As the name suggests, we communicate all sorts of information, using all forms of media, to all kinds of people. So this time, we’re telling everyone (including you, yes you..), using a blog, about our upcoming HBO Original Series Flight of the Conchords!

If you are reading this, you’ve probably also seen our very pretty microsite with show and cast info, and also music videos of the Conchords’ silly tunes. BTW we’re also on Facebook! You can graffiti your love for the guys all over our wall over there too. In a nutshell, all these online ventures form up the role I play in this FOTC campaign :)

So what is FOTC all about? The official answer’s here, but I personally think FOTC can’t be summed up that easily. Sure it’s about Bret and Jemaine and their lives in NYC, but FOTC is so great simply cos they don’t appear to be trying at all! They sing about the most ridiculous things (”love is like a roll of tape, it’s real good for making two things one“) but somehow it just works. At first watch, us girls in the office were all ‘oh Bret is so cute!!’. But as the season progressed, Jemaine’s ogre-librarian look started to rub off and now we are all certified ‘Jemainiacs’! (”Yis.”)

Haha ok um, I could go on to include all the wink wink, nudge nudge inside jokes but what fun is that when most people won’t get it? That’s why we’re going to all this extent to promote this show; the day we hear some guy tell his girlfriend on the streets “you’re so beautiful, you could be a waitress“, we’ll know that all this effort was worth it ;)
