David Abbott (Ruffalo), a landscape architect who just lost his wife, is hoping to start life afresh - beginning with moving into a fantastic San Francisco apartment. But he discovers that the previous tenant still hasn't quite vacated the apartment yet. Hardworking medical resident Elizabeth Masterson (Witherspoon) is adamant that the apartment still belongs to her. What she doesn't realize is that she was involved in a tragic accident three months ago and although her spirit is roaming about, her body is still in a coma. With David's help, Elizabeth tries to piece together what happened to her. They find out along the way, that they are linked in more ways than one.
