Peer acceptance — what would you be without it? Daniel (Macchio) for one gets to be the Cobras' punching bag. Absolutely devoid of any fighting skills, he is no match for that bunch of karate savvy kids. He makes his position worse by falling for Ali (Shue), the ex-girlfriend of the leader of the Cobras. Desperate, Daniel turns to his handyman, Miyagi (Morita), who also happens to be a martial arts master.
