The kids from detention become a team in contention! Calling themselves 'lolos' ('lowly locals' in Hawaiian slang), they have endured life's hard knocks and have nothing to look forward to until their new teacher Miss Sandra Beecher (Berry) arrives. She actually thinks they can learn something in school. Spurred on by her encouragement, the lolos decide to build a solar-powered car. When they decide to take the car all the way across the Australian continent, it's time to cheer them on.
