Susanna Kaysen (two-time Oscar nominee Winona Ryder, Autumn In New York, Lost Souls) takes a break from the real world when she spends a year in a mental institution for troubled young women. Before she entered the institution, Susanna was just a girl having trouble making sense of her life. But within these insane walls; vibrant with a twisted variety of fruitcake of every shape and size, she will begin to question her own sanity. Nudging Susanna along the wayward path to la-la land is enigmatic nutball Lisa (Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie, Gia, Tomb Raider, Original Sin), who teaches the new girl on the block to get in touch with her darker side. As she gets drawn deeper into Lisa's cuckoo-carousel, and her self-identity slowly fades into oblivion. Susanna must choose to go back to the real world again or stay in Lisa's padlocked world of fantasy for the rest of her life.
