An 11-year-old girl learns important lessons about life, and death, in this gentle, touching coming-of-age comedy-drama. Vada Sultenfuss (Chlumsky) is a lonely girl whose mother is dead and father is a mortician. Her only solace is her best friend, a boy Thomas Sennett (Culkin) who is allergic to everything. When her father (Aykroyd) falls for his makeup assistant (Curtis), Vada goes out of her way to split them up.
