Much to his parents’ chagrin, Hoops McCann (Cusack) cannot live up to his name. Despite coming from a legion of basketball greats, he can’t even throw straight into the waste paper basket. His parents want him to win a college athletic scholarship and become a basketball star but the artistically-inclined Hoops wants to enroll into the Rhode Island College of Design. His entrance test however, requires him to write a love story although that is a problem, since he’s never been in love. He decides to ponder over his dilemma at a summer getaway where he meets Cassandra Eldrich (Moore). This sets the stage for a crazy off-the-wall youth comedy that happens during the course of this one crazy summer.
