Kate Forster (Bullock) is a doctor who has just left her all-glass lake house while Alex Wyler (Reeves) is an architect who is just moving in to the same house. Alex finds Kate's letter in the mailbox and starts a correspondence with her and the two begin to fall for each other. But there is a catch - the two are living in two different periods.
