Loser centers on Paul (Biggs), a Midwestern bumpkin who moves to New York for college at NYU. He arrives in the big city only to find that no one seems to like him. However, through a bizarre twist of fate, he meets fellow student, Dora (Suvari). He falls for her quickly and figures she likes him too. Or so he thinks. Unfortunately, Dora is busy having an affair with a pompous, unappreciative University professor (Kinnear). Things get worse for both Paul and Dora when he gets thrown out of his hostel and into the back room of an animal hospital and she loses her job as a strip-club waitress.
