Past his prime, baseball player Billy Chapel (Costner) is forced to re-examine his priorities in life. The girl of his dreams, Jane Aubrey (Preston), is leaving him and the once driving force of the Detroit Tigers is being traded like a baseball card after 20 years on the team. Falling from the baseball hall of fame to the land of the lame, Billy needs a compass and a clue. But what he doesn't need is directions when it comes to his fans and his love for the game.
