Winona Ryder plays Finn, a Berkeley graduate student who decides to spend the summer at the home of her grandmother, Hy (Burstyn) and her extended family – a group of women collectively known as the Grasse Quilting Bee. Finn is there to seek some peace and quiet in which she can write her thesis, and to consider a marriage proposal. In the solace of Hy's home, the women of the Quilting Bee relate to Finn the stories of the loves that shaped their lives - tales of love, betrayal, joy and heartbreak, each as individual as the women themselves.
