Ray Gibson (Murphy) and Claude Banks (Lawrence) pair up playing small-time crooks caught on one of their bootlegging runs and wrongly convicted of murder. Sentenced to life imprisonment at a Mississippi State Prison, Ray and Claude will have only one thing to sustain them through the next 60 years - the bond of friendship they have developed between themselves and the hope that one day, they will walk outside the prison walls as free men.
