Written and directed by James L Brooks, out-of-work actor Matt Hobbs (Nolte) is fighting the Hollywood system and losing. The talented but unsuccessful actor has a lot of adjusting to do when his ex-wife dumps their six-year-old daughter on him. Things get even more complicated when he falls for a production assistant but has to choose between family and career.
