Assistant D.A. Rusty Sabich (Ford) is assigned to the murder case of his beautiful co-worker with whom he had an affair. At first the investigation goes slowly, but when incriminating evidence suddenly surfaces, the investigator finds himself named as the accused. Sabich faces the complete collapse of his life as he knows it. His wife stands by him, but is bitter because of his infidelity. He now has to rely on his knowledge of the law, and on defense attorney Sandy Stern (Julia) to steer him through the courtroom and clear his name.
