Arturo Sandoval (Garcia) is in a dilemma. He loves his music, and to play it, he must defect against the ruling Fidel Castro government in Cuba, which compels him to play rigid compositions in state sanctioned ensembles. But he loves his wife Marianela (Maestro), who is a Castro supporter. Torn between the two, his friend and mentor, jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie comes as a new lease of life for him and convinces him to take part in a dangerous defection. Meanwhile, his wife's allegiance with Castro is broken and she, too, is convinced by Sandoval to join him. This HBO Original Movie is based on the life and times of multiple Grammy winner and Cuban defector, Arturo Sandoval, and his struggle to come to terms with the two things he loved most dearly.
